Color Palette #125 :: Color Wheel

A few years ago, I started an unintentional tradition of giving personalized calendars as Christmas gifts. Family members loved it, but I didn’t realize how much until I ran out of time and didn’t make any last year.

I thought there was going to be a mini Christmas revolt.

The memory of that has led me to planning them now. No way am I going to forget, and if I run out of time, everyone’s getting a note saying it’s coming.¬†Avoiding the guilt trips and disappointed faces is a strong motivating factor, let me tell you.

I also decided to make a calendar for myself this year. Since I’ve got color theory on the brain, that influenced the design; I thought it’d be fun to see a new color wheel/color palette for each month.

I made up a quick test sheet to see how the colors printed off, and I got it in the mail yesterday. For the most part, I’m happy with the colors, but I’m not sure how I feel about the design. It’s hard to compare, since they are so much smaller on the test sheet than the final size I plan to print them out at, but I don’t know. You tell me – is it enough like a color wheel or more like a shooting range target?

I think it’s time to keep playing.

Psst… in case you wanted to get in on it and forgot, my Editing with Elements Birthday Special ends tonight, and November’s Palette Club cut off is tomorrow!

I want one! Oh no, now you’ve done it – it’s not just family that will be beating down your door but antipodean friends as well. I think it looks awesome and I like the wheel and palette idea. How big will the calendar be?

You’ve got me laughing, Libby. When I get the final prints back, I’ll shoot you an email. Final size will be 5 x 7 inches, so it’ll fit in a standard frame. Do you have that size in Australia??
